Mazda Transmission Fluid Exchange Service

Transmission Fluid Exchange Service in St. Louis, MO – Mazda service center St. Louis

There’s a possibility a transmission fluid exchange service has never been done on your vehicle before. If you have an automatic transmission, you might be able to own your vehicle without having the service done at all as automatic transmission vehicles need to have that service done between 60,000 – 100,000 miles. Manual transmissions, however, will need transmission fluid exchange services done every 30,000-60,000 miles. If a manual transmission vehicle consistently does heavy-duty maneuvers, that service will need to be done every 15,000 miles.

The transmission consists of several moving metal parts that need proper lubrication, which is where the transmission fluid comes in. Over time the fluid gets contaminated with very small particles of friction material and metal. The protective additives of the fluids also break down, which leads to higher wear and tear and, if not treated properly, a breakdown. When the transmission gets the fluid drained and replaced with new fluid, about ⅔ of the original fluid still remains. The torque converter and multiple passages in the valve body keep that fluid. The remaining ⅓ is new, but gets contaminated with the old fluid and subsequently provides weaker protection. Other systems that use fluids and lubrication deal with a similar effect when they are only drained and filled. It is recommended to conduct complete full fluid exchanges to maximize vehicle maintenance.
